Adidas uses cow hearts for dramatic effect

In an effort to make a statement about how big soccer players’ hearts are as the FIFA World Cup kicks off, Adidas used cow hearts. The literally blood-red hearts held by soccer players create a hard-to-decipher contrast between the dark backgrounds of the pictures, with the tagline “During the World Cup, I will give my heart to the cause.”

AdidasArsenal star Lukas Podolski, playing for his home country, Germany, clutches a bloody cow’s heart in his fists with the slogan: “During the World Cup, I will give my heart to the cause.” Podolski however defended the ad, saying: “I don’t find it disgusting. It just shows my promise to give my heart in our bid to win the World Cup. I and the rest of the team will give it all for Germany.”
This has infuriated some animal rights activists, calling for the players to apologize. But the players stood strong, saying it represented what it would give for their country to win the World Cup.
