Life Lessons from Livestock-SHARED FROM DRIVE

Author: Kristy

When the special education teacher noticed one of her students with autism, Graham, was only interested in attending his agriculture class, she wanted to know what Josh Hargis – the teen’s ag teacher – was doing to get through to him.

“It wasn’t me – it was the animals he enjoyed working with,” Hargis says.

In fact, Graham was so interested, Hargis got permission from the boy’s parents for him to show a pig.

“His pig project paralleled everything he was working on at home. He didn’t want to brush his hair, but he would brush his pig. Within a couple of months, he was brushing his own hair. Cleaning pens showed him he needed to clean his bedroom. He made tremendous progress in a short period of time,” Hargis says.
