Technical Sergeant Tom Marcum experienced four separate mortar explosion incidents in less than 24 months, Tom suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and struggles with the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Today, Tom finds strength in his faith and always gives credit to his wife April, calling her his lifeline. “She’s been my greatest support through my recovery,” says Tom. Surgeons removed shrapnel from Tom’s right shoulder, but after being medically retired in 2010, Tom says he lapsed into a deep depression. TBI and PTSD were simply too much to endure. That’s when his wife April called Wounded Warrior Project®. She attended a caregiver retreat, and Tom says, “The rest is history.
