Unlikely Bond Found After Tragedy

Author: Kristy

SIOUX FALLS, SD –

The plane carrying the pilot and three cattlemen returning from Hereford, Texas to Gettysburg crashed one year ago today.

It happened 5 miles south of Highmore on a foggy and rainy night. The plane hit a wind tower blade. Authorities later said the turbine did not have a working light.

The crash came as a complete shock to the wives. One woman married her husband just six weeks before. Another were married for more than 12 years and had two children. But out of tragedy has come an unlikely bond.

“There is a level of understanding between all of us,” Megan Fischer said. “In my situation, as a pilot’s wife, has been a little bit difficult. But thankfully I have three amazing women beside me, walking this path with me.”

After the year the women have been through, they call themselves the Warrior Widows.

And for the first time, the women speak publicly about their friendship and how they’ve been able to find some hope.

It’s a story you will only see here on Eye on KELOLAND at 10 p.m.
