“Richard” was raised by Sornson Show Steers & sold by Dalton Smith/Keaton Otto.

Since 1983, the IA beef industry has raised funds for the Ronald McDonald House Charities in Des Moines, Iowa City and Sioux City  The houses provide a “home away from home” for families of seriously ill children being treated in area hospitals and have served nearly 48,000 families.

During the competition, celebrities lead 25 steers around the ring, vying for the championship designation, showmanship honors, and the People’s Choice award. Then, the steers are sold at auction, immediately following the show, with proceeds going to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Iowa. This event has raised $3.5 million since 1983, and counting.
